Knives, Daggers, and Dirks
The blades shown here are but a few of the styles that I am currently making. All blades are 100% hand forged from 1095, 1060, 5160, 1095 Electrite, L-6, 9260 and a few other steels, depending upon use and design. We use no recycled materials, only new stock to make our blades.
These are "representative" examples of what I call my "standard" line of belt knives and daggers. By no means should these be considered all that I can do, far from it in fact. Most styles are available in high carbon, welded cable as well as a variety of pattern welded steel patterns.
The grip materials that are available are dependant upon style of blade, size and the suitability and availability of the specific material.
Our standard grip woods for blades of these sizes and styles are:
Bocote, aka Cordia
Oak (red and white varieties, white oak has limited availability)
The above is just a partial listing of woods that we can use. If the wood you are interested in is not listed, we can easily use it if it is available in the size and the quality we need. All woods we use are 100% natural, NOT reconstituted nor plasticized.
Stag, Bone, Horn and Ivory:
The stag market is still very volatile and the prices for the Indian material has skyrocketed to an absurd level. However, we have obtained a nice supply of farm raised European Red Deer antler so stag is available on a "special order" basis on some blades.
Bone: The bones we use are usually beef bones obtained in bulk from Texas rendering houses and we process these here. Bone is available on some styles, dependant upon the design parameters of any given blade. It is available in the "natural bone white", dyed or in my "fossilized bovine ivory" treatment, mimicking fossilized ivory.
Horn: We use only the highest quality water buffalo horn available. This is one "sexy" material and is probably one of the most attractive grips out there. Available in smooth or hand fluted styles.
Ivory: This is a "controversial" material, and we do have a nice supply of LEGAL elephant and fossilized walrus, Mammoth and Mastodon ivory. This is perhaps the "ultimate" grip material for "presentation" pieces and is available on special order ONLY.
Wire Wrapped grips: Most styles listed below are available in wire wrapped grips, in either bronze or German silver. Please see the wire grip section for specific wrapping patterns.
Mounting materials are as follows. Bronze is pretty much the "standard" mounting material, but German silver (aka "nickel silver") is available on some styles as well as black iron mounts on most of the larger pieces. Please see the individual descriptions for available options.
Please note: The lengths mentioned are approximate, actual blade lengths can and usually do vary.
If you have any questions at all, by all means please feel free to contact us.
Sgain Dubh: This is a "classic" knife and probably one of the most "useful" knives we make. Blades are hand forged from 1095 elecrite, tempered to 59 RC and sized between 4" and 5 1/2" long and approx 1" wide, single edged. Also available with welded cable and pattern welded blades. Grip materials vary and all the materials listed above are available, except wire. Available in bronze or German silver mounts. Shown with bronze mounts and Coco-Bolo grip.
Boot Knife: Another "classic" the same size as the Sgain Dubh but with a double edged blade. Forged from 1095 Electrite, hardened to RC 59 this is a "standard design" for a classic knife. Welded cable and pattern welded blades are an option. Available in all the above listed grip materials except for wire, with blade lengths ranging from 4" to 6". Bronze or German silver mounts. Shown with Coco-bolo grip and bronze mountings.
Lady's European Dagger
Lady's European Dagger: Hand forged 1095 Eletrite double edged blade, 5" x 1". This is a "handy sized" dagger. Available in all the above grip materials. Bronze or German silver mounts. Shown with bronze "sculpted" guard/fan pommel and Bocote grip. Pattern welded as well as welded cable are available as blade options.
Lady's Leaf Bladed Poniard
Lady's Leaf Bladed Poniard: A leaf shaped blade 6" long x 1" wide (at the widest) in hand forged 1095 Electrite. Batwing guard is standard, you choice of pommel shape. Available in all grip materials except wire. Bronze guard with "mushroom" pommel with African Blackwood grip shown. German silver mounts also available. Blade is available with welded c
