Fitting Material and Finishes
We offer Phosphor Bronze and  Iron as fitting material. Both materials are available in either sculpted or forged  styles.  There are very few people alive today that offer any kind of forged bronze.  The majority of  the fittings that are being produced are in fact cast, and this is not a very good way to do this.  Hence or fittings are either hand forged or hand sculpted.
Phosphor Bronze  A very Beautiful metal.  It polishes wonderfully and does not patina blue or green like brass, but instead patinas with a wonderful ruddy brown if not polished.
Polished Iron Polished iron is a very "proper" finish for most "period" pieces, but it requires constant care to prevent discoloration and oxidation. I do NOT recommend this finish for anything other than museum grade reproductions, It is simply too much of a hassle.
Blued Iron Blued iron, well these are some of the best looking fittings we have ever seen.  They are devastating when combined with a wire wrapped grip. We offer three types of bluing, Hot Salt, Charcoal and Nitre blue finishes.
Charcoal Blue Charcoal Blue is perhaps the most beautiful of all finishes but also is the most delicate and the most prone to changes in color from the passage of time. This is a thermal process that involves heating the pieces over a charcoal fire on top of a sheet of mica. A very old process. Due to the heat involved, any thermal treatment that was used in the manufacture of pieces being blued will be lost.  This finish is reserved for exact re-creations only due to the extreme difficulty in obtaining the proper color and the durability factors involved.
Nitre Blue: A gorgeous finish very similar to a true Charcoal blue, but a good deal tougher due to the chemical action of the Nitre salts used in this process. While still not as durable as a hot salt blue, this finish is a very lustrous and breath taking blue indeed.  Here again, due to the heat involved, there is damage to thermal treatment.
Hot Salt Blue This process is best know in the firearms industry. Most of the blued steel firearms made today use hot salt processes. We do some of the finest hot salt blue available today. This involves 300 degree super-saturate solutions of sodium hydroxide and it is not without extreme hazards but the results are worth it.  We highly recommend this finish on all iron fittings expect those with overlays (sometimes the solutions will react with the overlay materials).  The resulting finish is a very lustrous, deep, blue/black color that is very, very attractive and very durable.
