African Blackwood This wood is very very hard and very very black, 100 times the wood Ebony is.  Occasionally exhibits some lighter charcoal gray with black figure, but usually is 100% black.

Bocote (aka Cordia) This is a dark yellow wood with darker brown figure. Picture not available at this time
Coco-Bola  A beautiful and highly figured wood that ranges from dark purple to vermilion red, to gold, to yellow. This beautiful wood is our favorite.

Kingwood This wood is a light to medium purple color with darker grains figure. Was the "wood of choice" in the latter part of the 19th Century for trade knives and furniture Picture not available at this time
Pao Ferro A dense, dark brown wood, similar to good Walnut, but ever so much harder Picture not available at this time
Pistachio This wood is rather unusual as it has a green/yellow tint with darker grain. Very close grain and very hard. Picture not available at this time
Other Grip Woods
We do have additional grip woods in stock, but individual woods may not be available at any given time due to the world market.

Brazilian Cherry A red colored wood with darker red figure. Somewhat open grained, still a very attractive wood. Usually available in dagger sized grip pieces. Picture not available at this time
Purple Heart Talk about a wild color. vibrant purple hues and very hard. Starts out almost white when first cut, but darkens into a very rich purple color as it "ages". Usually available in dagger sized pieces. Picture not available at this time
Red Heart Talk about red! This is the "reddest" wood we have ever seen. A little "open" grained but still a nice wood with gorgeous color.  Sometimes available in sword grip sized pieces, but mostly in dagger sizes. Picture not available at this time
Tulip Wood This wood is very striking and a favorite of the ladies. A yellow/cream background with bright pink figure. Available in dagger sized grips. Picture not available at this time
We have access to literally dozens of different exotic hardwoods.  If you have a favorite, and we can locate some for you, we will be more than happy to use it.  Some of these woods are VERY expensive and we will have to adjust the prices of the finished product accordingly.
Bone and Horn grips

Horn We use only the finest black buffalo horn available. Most of this material is imported from India or the Philippines.   Water buffalo are no where near being extinct,  50 million of them graze the plains of Asia.  This material finishes with an almost glass like smoothness and exhibits a "grain" similar to wood.  Picture not available at this time
Stag  With the world market being as it is, and since we use only the finest stag we can find this supply is at times limited.   In the past few years stag prices have risen some 500% over what they were.   Regardless of this, we still try to obtain the finest pieces for the best possible price. Our stag comes from India and is either Sambar or Sitka Deer.   Occasionally we do get in some Red Deer from New Zealand, but that is very rarely.

DUE TO THE INDIAN GOVERNEMENTS BAN ON THE EXPORT OF STAG, WE NO LONGER OFFER THIS MATERIAL FOR GRIPS.

Bone For centuries bone has been a favorite grip material for knives and swords, but it has "faded" from popularity and we cannot understand why.  We use fully steam cleaned and sterilized bone.   This material is available in the natural off white/buff color or dyed black.  The dyed bone can have color ranges from totally black to light charcoal gray. It is impossible to tell how much dye will be absorbed and what the finished piece will look like.  But either way, it is an attractive grip material.  Both the natural bone and the dyed material is stabilized under vacuum with cyanoacetate.  This material also available in some styles as one, two or three piece grips, with our without bronze studs. grip-bone-custom.GIF (22366 bytes)
Wire Grips Wrapped

This  is probably the ultimate material when it comes to a good solid grip. It has gotten a rather undeserved reputation for coming loose and unserviceable from being used on all those low quality imported "wall hangers" that are flooding the market. This IS NOT the case with the grips we make.  They do not come loose, they remain serviceable, in fact the only way to loosen these is to destroy the grip.

All of our wire wrapped grips are secured with metal ferrules at the top and bottom. This ensures that they stay tight and attractive.  These grips are made from wire we hand draw ourselves and are wound over hardwood grip cores.  The grip is then lacquered and polished for "highlights".

Chevron Bronze and Iron  This grip is our most popular. It is two opposite direction twisted wires with a untwisted iron wire. This gives a "herring bone" or Chevron effect to the grip.

Fluted grips  We may flute any of the Bone, Horn of Stag grips. The effect is quite striking and beautiful. This fluting is done by hand and is quite labor intensive, but we like to offer it as an option.

Two, Three or Four Piece Grips. Multiple piece grips are available and your imagination is the limit. Dyed bone with undyed bone with bronze disk separators is popular, but this can be done with just about any of the grips. 3peicegrip.GIF (5750 bytes)
Studded Bone, Horn and Stag. Grips studded with bronze and/or silver studs is very attractive and improves the "Grip" upon the grip.

Exotic Grip Materials

Ivory Ivory is still a legal material as long as it is what is referred to as "pre ban" ALL IVORY WE USE IN PRE-BAN LEGAL IVORY.  We use no illegally obtained material.   The price of this wonderful material is expensive and will be dependant upon the "market price" at the time the order is completed.  The ivory we have was "harvested" approx. 100 years ago and has a beautiful off white. almost light honey color due to the age of this material. We usually DO NOT have any ivory gripped blades in stock unless it is a full blown Custom Shop blade for a special occasion.   Figure on the additional expense of at least $200.00 for an ivory knife grip.

Please, before you order a ivory grip check with your State to make certain you will not be in violation of any laws by possessing this material. We will NOT be responsible for any legal actions that may result if you are in violation of any laws.

Fossil Ivory We do have an inventory of fossil ivories such as Mastodon, Fossil Walrus, and Wooly Mammoth ivories. These materials are all 100% legal in all 50 States of the United States and most countries world wide.

Fossil Ivory is a beautiful material with colors than range from light honey amber, to tan, top brown to black, with even some rarely seen greens, blues and reds. The coloration all depends upon what minerals are present in the earth in the are where the animal expired.  Mostly seen colors are the tans and browns.
